Spanish clarinettist Pedro Franco is solo clarinet at the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed throughout Europe, Asia and USA, in Venues such as the Geneva Victoria Hall, Tonhalle in Zürich, Carnegie Hall, Luzern KKL, etc.,
Pedro is a prizewinner of the 2012 International Clarinet Competition in Turin, Italy.
He has recorded for, ARTE, BBC, Mezzo, WDR, NDR, DR, Radio Swiss Classic and performed at Verbier, St.Prex Classics and Moritzburg Festivals.
Pedro has collaborated with musicians such as Yuri Bashmet, Gautier Capuçon, Leonidas Kavakos, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Menahem Pressler, Deborah Voigt, Yuja Wang, and with composers as Salvador Brotons and Henri Dutilleux.
Beside his position in Copenhagen, during the season 19/20 he has worked as principal clarinettist of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, also played as guest principal clarinettist with the London Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra/National Orchestra of Sweden, Royal Danish Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, working with leading conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Herbert Blomstedt, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, Neeme Järvi, Fabio Luisi, Antonio Pappano and Yuri Temirkanov.
After studying in Spain with Miguel Martínez Royo, Juan Esteban Romero and José Lozano, he studied with Sabine Meyer at the Musikhochschule Lübeck (Germany), with François Benda at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, and as one of the last students of the late Thomas Friedli and Michel Westphal in the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève (Switzerland) supported by the Ibercaja Foundation, Yehudi Menuhin and the Hindemith Stiftung in Berlin.
